Mystery of the Faith Lesson 11

Judgment Seat of Christ



There were things taught about this "faith" which they did not understand (a "mystery").  They did not understand (a "mystery") that Jesus would come, be born of a virgin, but would be rejected, crucified, buried, and raised the third day.  They did not understand (a "mystery") that Jesus would ascend to heaven and return at a later time to set up his political kingdom as promised to Abraham.

When Jesus comes at the Rapture all of the saved will appear before the judgment seat of Christ.  This is not a judgment for salvation, but a judgment of works for rewards.

1. When a person tells someone about Jesus, then they are laying a   for that person .

(1 Corinthians 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.)

2. When a person is saved, then they are on the   of Christ.

(1 Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.)

3. Every saved person is to take heed how they  on the foundation of Christ.  

(1 Corinthians 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.)

4. The materials that a Christian can use to build upon this foundation are symbolic of how they live day by day.  

(1 Corinthians 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;)

 A. Gold is symbolic of the  of your faith.  

(1 Peter 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:)

 B. Silver is symbolic of  God  us as  is tried.

          (Psalms 66:10 For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.)

 C. Precious Stones which are made of hardness and stability are symbolic of  our  even in the face of death.

(1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.)

 D. Wood is symbolic of .  

(2 Timothy 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.)

 E. Hay which withers   ( Isaiah 15:6 For the waters of Nimrim shall be desolate: for the hay is withered away, the grass faileth, there is no green thing.) is symbolic of worldliness which  away.  

(1 John 2:16-17 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17  And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.)

 F. Stubble is symbolic of .  

(Malachi 4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.)

5. As Christians live their lives they build a building on the foundation of Jesus using the materials in (1 Corinthians 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;).  At the judgment seat of Christ this building is judged by .  

(1 Corinthians 3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.)

8. The materials that will abide at the judgment seat of Christ are  Choose one of the following.

9. "If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a ."  

(1 Corinthians 3:14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.)

  (1 Corinthians 3:15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.)
