I. The wickedness of the world. Genesis 6:1-7

    A. The sons of God. Genesis 6:1-3

       1. The sons of God in Heaven with Satan. Job 1:6

       2. The sons of God at the creation of the foundation of the earth. Job 38:6-7

       3. The sons of God are angels, known also as spirits. Psalms 104:4

    B. The sons of God married the daughters of men. Genesis 6:2-4

       1. Angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation. Jude 1:6

       2. Angels that was disobedient in the days of Noah. 1 Peter 3:19-20

       3. Angels that sinned in the days of Noah. 2 Peter 2:4-5

       4. God’s spirit (angels) shall not always strive with man. Genesis 6:3

       5. Angels also have flesh, “for that he also is flesh” Genesis 6:3

       6. In 120 years, the angels that married the daughters of men will be cast into hell at the time of the flood. “his (angel) days shall be an hundred and twenty years.” Genesis 6:3

    C. The children of the sons of God and the daughters of men. Genesis 6:4

       1. They were mighty men which were of old.

       2. Men of renown, geniuses.

    D. The wickedness of man was great. Genesis 6:5

    E. God was greatly grieved. Genesis 6:6

    F. God would destroy all life on the earth. Genesis 6:7

II. “Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” Genesis 6:8-13

    A. Noah was just and perfect in his generation. Genesis 6:9

    B. Noah walked with God. Genesis 6:9

    C. Noah had three sons. Genesis 6:10

    D. God told Noah he would destroy all flesh upon the earth. Genesis 6:11-13

[Note:

       • The Hebrew word for ship is tsiy and the Greek word for a ship is ploion.

       • The Hebrew word for a box is tebah and the Greek word for a box is kibotos.

       • Noah was told to build an ark (tebah), which is a box not a ship. Genesis 6:14

       • Jesus said that Noah entered into the ark (kibotos), which is a box not a ship. Matthew 24:38

There are two symbolic pictures in the account of Noah and the flood.

A picture of Salvation through the death of Christ.

       • Noah and family building the ark by faith in the death of Christ is symbolic of Christians saved by faith in the death of Christ. Hebrews 11:7

       • The ark, a box, a type of coffin, is a picture of the death of Jesus to save us from the death (the flood) of sin. 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10; Romans 5:10

       • The flood is symbolic of the wages of sin. Romans 6:23

A picture of the Rapture before the tribulation period.

       • Noah and family going into the ark is symbolic of trusting the death of Christ to save them from the wrath to come. 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10

       • The flood is symbolic of the wrath to come.

    • When did Noah and his family go into the ark? Genesis 7:13-17

       • Six months after the flood started? (Mid-flood)

       • After the flood was over? (Post-flood)

       • When the flood started? (Pre-flood)

When will the Rapture happen according to Noah going into the ark?

       • Three and one half years after the tribulation starts? (Mid-tribulation)

       • After the tribulation is over? (Post- tribulation)

       • When the tribulation starts? (Pre-tribulation)

III. God told Noah to build an ark. Genesis 6:14-21

    A. Make an ark of gopher wood, with rooms and pitch it within and without. Genesis 6:14

    B. The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. Genesis 6:15

    C. One window and one door. Genesis 6:16

    D. Three stories. Genesis 6:16

    E. Noah and his wife are to go into the ark with their three sons and their wives. Genesis 6:17-18

    F. Noah is to take two of every living thing into the ark. Genesis 6:19-20

    G. Noah is to take enough food for his family and all the animals. Genesis 6:21

IV. Noah did all that God commanded him to do. Genesis 6:22
