2 Samuel 2


I. David made king over Judah. Vs. 1-7

    A. The Lord has David to go to Hebron. Vs. 1-3

    B. The men of Judah came and anointed David king of Judah. Vs. 4

    C. The men of Judah told David that the men of Jebesh-gilead buried Saul and his sons. Vs. 4

    D. David blesses the men of Jebesh-gilead. Vs. 5-7

II. David fights against the house of Saul. Vs. 8-32

    A. Abner takes Ishbosheth, the son of Saul to Mahanaim. Vs. 8

    B. Ishbosheth is made king over Gilead, Ashurites, Jezreel, Ephraim, Benjamin and the rest of Israel. Vs. 9

       1. Ishbosheth was forty years old when be began to reign over Israel. Vs. 10

       2. Ishbosheth reigned over Israel for two years. Vs.10

    C. David reigned over Judah. Vs. 10

       1. David reigned over Judah for seven years and six months. Vs. 11

    D. Abner takes the army of Israel to Mahanaim. Vs. 12

    E. Joab takes the army of Judah to meet them at the pool of Gibeon. Vs. 13

    F. Abner challenges Joab to let 12 men from each side to fight it out. Vs. 14-16

       1. Each side paired up.

       2. Each pair grabbed each other by the hair of their head and thrust their swords through each other.

       3. Each pair died together.

    G. A larger battle was fought between Israel and Judah. Vs. 17-32

       1. Asahel runs to catch and kill Abner. Vs. 18-19

       2. Abner warns Asahel to stop. Vs. 20-22

       3. As Asahel comes up behind Abner, Abner stabs him with the back end of his spear. Vs. 23

       4. Joab and Abishai pursued Abner to the hill of Ammah. Vs. 24

       5. Abner pleads with Joab to stop the battle. Vs. 25-26

       6. Joab told Abner that he started the battle. Vs. 27

       7. Joab blew a trumpet for Judah to stop. Vs. 28

       8. Judah lost 20 men in the war. Vs. 29-30

       9. Israel lost 360 men in the war. Vs. 31-32
