2 Samuel 5


I. David made king over Israel. Vs. 1-5

    A. David was 30 years old when he began to reign and he reigned 40 years. Vs. 4

    B. David was king of Judah for 7 years and 6 months. Vs. 5

    C. David was king of Israel 33 years.

II. David takes Zion. Vs. 6-10

    A. The Jebusites thought they were well protected by their gods on the walls of their city. Vs. 6

        1. The Israelites call the Jebusites’ gods blind and lame. Vs. 6 Psalms 115:4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. 5 They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not: 6 They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not: 7 They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.

    B. The Jebusites thought they were well protected by the walls around their city that even the blind and lame men could hold off the enemy. Vs. 6

    C. David conquered Zion and now it is called the city of David. Vs. 7

III. Hiram’s recognition of David. Vs. 11-12

    A. Hiram, king of Tyre, built David a house. Vs. 11

IV. Eleven sons born to David in Jerusalem. Vs. 13-16

V. David defeats the Philistines. Vs. 17-25

    A. The Philistines, came against David in the valley of Rephaim. Vs. 17-18

        1. David asks God if he should fight against the Philistines and God says yes. Vs. 19

        2. David defeated the Philistines at Baalperazim and burned their images. Vs. 20-21

    B. The Philistines came the second time against David in the valley of Rephaim. Vs. 22

        1. David asks God if he should fight against the Philistines again. Vs. 23

        2. God told David to go behind them to the mulberry trees. Vs. 23

        3. When David hears the wind blow in the top of the mulberry trees, then he is to fight the Philistines. Vs. 24

        4. David defeated the Philistines from Geba to Gazer. Vs. 25
