2 Samuel 14


I. Joab’s scheme for Absalom’s return. Vs. 1-24

    A. Joab perceives that king David would like to have Absalom back without pardonig him. Vs. 1

    B. Joab enlists a woman of Tekoah to present a pretend case before the king. Vs. 2-11

       1. She presents herself as a widow in mourning. Vs. 2-5

       2. She pretends to have two sons. Vs. 6

       3. One son killes the other. Vs. 6

       4. Her family wants her to deliver her son to them that they might kill him. Vs. 7

       5. Her husband’s name would end at the death of her son. Vs. 7

       6. The king grants her protection. Vs. 8-9

       7. She asks the king for protection for her son, and he grants it. Vs. 10-11

    C. She tells David that this story is about him and Absalom. Vs. 12-17

       1. The woman reminds David that life is short. Vs. 14

    D. David asks the woman if this was the work of Joab, and she answers yes. Vs. 17-20

    E. David gives Joab permission to bring Absalom back to Jerusalem. Vs. 21-22

    F. Absalom returns back to his house, but David will not see him. Vs. 23-24

II. Absalom returns to David’s court. Vs. 25-33

    A. Absalom is very popular and handsome. Vs. 25

    B. Absalom has very heavy long hair and cuts it once a year. Vs. 26

    C. Absalom has three sons and a daughter. Vs. 27

    D. Absalom has been back in Jerusalem for two full years and has not seen the king’s face. Vs. 28

    E. Absalom sends twice for Joab, and he will not answer. Vs. 29

    F. Absalom tells his servants to set Joab’s field on fire. Vs. 30

    G. Joab wants to know why Absalom set his field on fire. Vs. 31

    H. Absalom wants Joab to persuade David to let him see him. Vs. 32-33

    I. David has Absalom to come before him and he kisses Absalom. Vs. 33
