Zechariah 7-8

A. Fasting 7:2-6

    1. The fast of the fifth month is about the burning of the city and temple. Zechariah 7:3; Jeremiah 52:12, 13

    2. The fast of the seventh month is about the murder of Gedaliah. Zechariah 7:5, Jeremiah 41:1, 2

    3. Did you fast to God? Zechariah 7:5

    4. Did you not eat to yourselves? Zechariah 7:6

B. What did God say to the former prophets? Zechariah 7:7-10

    1. Execute true judgment. Zechariah 7:9

    2. Shew mercy and compassions. Zechariah 7:9

    3. Oppress not the Widow, fatherless, strange, and poor. Zechariah 7:10

    4. Do not imagine evil against your brother in your mind. Zechariah 7:10

C. What did the people do? Zechariah 7:11-12

    1. They refused to hearken. Zechariah 7:11

    2. Pulled away the shoulder. Zechariah 7:11

    3. Stopped their ears. Zechariah 7:11

    4. Made their hearts as an adamant stone. Zechariah 7:12

    5. Did not want to hear the preaching. Zechariah 7:12

D. What did God do? Zechariah 7:12-14

    1. God sent his wrath. Zechariah 7:12

    2. If they would not hear God, then God would not hear them. Zechariah 7:13

    3. God would scatter them among all nations. Zechariah 7:14

    4. God would make the land desolate. Zechariah 7:14

E. God was Jealous for Israel. Zechariah 8:1-2

F. What God will do for Israel. Zechariah 8:3-15

    1. God will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Zechariah 8:3

    2. Jerusalem will be a city of truth. Zechariah 8:3

    3. Jerusalem will be a holy mountain. Zechariah 8:3

    4. Old men and women will dwell in the streets of Jerusalem. Zechariah 8:4

    5. Jerusalem will be full of children playing in the streets. Zechariah 8:5

    6. The people and God will be pleased. Zechariah 8:6

    7. God will bring back the people from the east & west country to Jerusalem. Zechariah 8:7-8

    8. Israel will be God’s people. Zechariah 8:8

    9. Israel will worship God in truth and righteousness. Zechariah 8:8

G. Remember how it was. Zechariah 8:9-10

    1. There was no work for man or beast. Zechariah 8:10

    2. There was no peace. Zechariah 8:10

    3. Everyone was against everyone. Zechariah 8:10

H. Now hear what God will do For Israel. Zechariah 8:11

    1. The seed will be prosperous. Zechariah 8:12

    2. The vine will give her fruit. Zechariah 8:12

    3. The ground will produce. Zechariah 8:12

    4. The weather will be great. Zechariah 8:12

    5. Israel will posses all things. Zechariah 8:12

    6. Israel will no longer be a curse, but a blessing to all nations. Zechariah 8:13

    7. As God punished Israel in the past, now he will bless them. Zechariah 8:14-15

I. What is Israel to do? Zechariah 8:16-23

    1. Speak the truth. Zechariah 8:16

    2. Execute judgment of truth. Zechariah 8:16

    3. Have peace in your gates. Zechariah 8:16

    4. Do not imagine evil in your mind against anyone. Zechariah 8:17

    5. Do not love false oath. Zechariah 8:17

    6. Fast with rejoicing not mourning. Zechariah 8:18-19

       a. The fast of the fourth month is about the capture of Jerusalem by the Chaldeans. Jeremiah 52:6,7

       b. The fast of the fifth month is about the burning of the city and temple. Jeremiah 52:12,13

       c. The fast of the seventh month is about the murder of Gedaliah. Jeremiah 41:1, 2

       d. The fast of the tenth month is about the beginning of the siege of the holy city by Nebuchadnezzar. Jeremiah 52:4

J. The results of obeying God. Zechariah 8:20-23

    1. The cities will be full of people. Zechariah 8:20

    2. All the people will want to worship the Lord. Zechariah 8:21

    3. The nations will come to Jerusalem to pray. Zechariah 8:22

    4. The Gentiles will know that God is with the Jews. Zechariah 8:23
