D. A better day will come. Malachi 3:1-18

    1. The coming of Messiah. Malachi 3:1-6

       a. God's messenger, Elijah, will come suddenly to prepare the way for the Messiah. Malachi 3:1

       b. Messiah will rebuke and condemn during the tribulation period. Malachi 3:2-3

       c. The worship will be true and happy during the Millennium. Malachi 3:4

       d. God will judge and punish the wicked. Malachi 3:5

    2. God is faithful to his promises. Malachi 3:6-12

       a. God will keep his promise to Jacob. Malachi 3:6

       b. God will receive the penitent. Malachi 3:7 c. The people robbed God. Malachi 3:8-9

       d. God will bless the tithers. Malachi 3:10-12

    3. The rebellious people spoke against God and his law. Malachi 3:13-15

    4. The faithful who did not speak against God would be honored as God’s jewels. Malachi 3:16-18

E. Separation of good and evil at a day of judgment. Malachi 4:1-3

    1. The proud and the rebellious to be burned up during the tribulation period. Malachi 4:1-3

    2. Obey the law. Malachi 4:4

F. Elijah is to come and prepare the way for the great day (first coming)

and dreadful day (second coming) of Christ. Malachi 4:5-6

    1. Elijah came as John the Baptist before the great day (First Coming) of the Lord.

       a. Jesus identified John the Baptist as Elijah. Matthew 11:7-15

             1) “And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.” Matthew 11:14

       b. The disciples asked Jesus “Why then say the scribes that Elijah must first come?” Matthew 17:10

             1) Jesus answered “That Elijah is come already, and they knew him not,

             but have done unto him whatsoever they listed,

             Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.” Matthew 17:12

             2) “Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.”

       c. Why did John the Baptist say that he was not Elijah? John 1:19-23

             1) John the Baptist did not want to be known by the name of Elijah,

             but identified himself as “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness,

             Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.”

             John 1:23 Which is a description of Elijah.

                   d) Luke 1:13-17

                   e) Luke 3:2-6 (Isaiah 40:3-5)

    2. Elijah will come as one of the two witnesses before the dreadful day (Second Coming) of the Lord.

             a. During the Tribulation Period. Revelation 11:3-12

             b. As one of the two olive trees, the two anointed ones,

             that stand by the Lord of the whole earth. Zechariah 4:11-14

             c. Moses and Elijah Luke 9:28-31
