I. The Introductions of Jesus Christ

    A. To the Jews, Gentiles and the Nation of Israel by the genealogy of Jesus Christ. Matthew 1:1-17

       1. The legal introduction of Jesus to the Jews by his heirship to the promises of Abraham

       and his pedigree to the Throne of David. Matthew 1:1

          a. Son of Abraham – Matthew 1:1-2

             1) Abraham, the father of the nation to rule the world. Genesis 22:17-18

                a) Jesus the seed of Abraham Galatians 3:16

                b) Jacob (Israel), the name of the nation to rule the world. Genesis 32:28

                c) Judah, the kingly tribe, of which the king would come. Genesis 49:10

          b. Son of David, king of Israel – Matthew 1:1, 6

             1) David’s heir will be the king of Israel. Luke 1:30-33

       2. The Gospel introduction of Jesus to the world, by four women.

          a. Thamar (Tamar) - Matthew 1:3

             1) A sinner, a harlot by revenge, saved by righteousness. Genesis 38:1-30

             2) We are made righteous by Jesus. Philippians 3:9

          b. Rachab (Rahab) - Matthew 1:5

             1) A sinner, a harlot by works, saved by faith. Hebrews 11:30-31

             2) We are saved by faith. Ephesians 2:8-9

          c. Ruth – Matthew 1:5

             2) A Moabite (Son of Lot and his daughter), a curse. Genesis 19:33-37

             1) Two of them were strangers to the commonwealth of Israel, Rachab a Canaanites and Ruth the Moabitess.

                a) In Jesus we are made nigh by his blood. Ephesians 2:11-20

                b) In Jesus all are accepted. Galatians 3:26-29

             2) Two of them were adulteresses, Tamar and Bathsheba.

                a) Jesus condemned sin in the flesh. Romans 8:3-4

          f. The conclusion of the genealogy of Christ. Matthew 1:16

             1) The Bible did not state “and Joseph begat Jesus”.

                a) The Bible stated: “Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.”

       3. The Messianic introduction of Jesus to the nation of Israel by the divisions of the genealogy of Jesus. Matthew 1:17

          a. Three divisions of 14 generations.

             1) Abraham to David

                a) The development of the Nation of Israel.

             2) David to the carrying away into Babylon

                a) The Nation of Israel in rebellion (sin).

          b. Jesus will redeem the Nation of Israel as the Messiah.

    B. To the Jews by the fulfillment of prophecy. Matthew 1:18-2:23

          a. Prophesied 740 years before Christ in Isaiah 7:14

          b. “Jesus shall save his people from their sins” Matthew 1:21

          b. Bethlehem in the land of Judah . Matthew 2:5-6

       3. The prophecy that Jesus would come out of Egypt. Matthew 2:13-15

          a. Prophesied 606 years before Christ in Jeremiah 31:15

    C. To the Gentiles by the visit of the wise men. Matthew 2:1-12

       1. The Jews of old were not the only ones privileged to the knowledge of God.

          a. The Gentiles knew about God and the wise men came from the East to see the King of the Jews.

          b. The gifts they gave told the story of Jesus.

             1) Gold – Jesus is King of Kings

             2) Frankincense – Token of His divinity.

             3) Myrrh – Jesus will give his life to save the World.

    D. To the Universe and Heavenly Host by the sign of the star. Matthew 2:1-10

       1. The extraordinary sign of the star for two years. Matthew 2:9, 16

       2. Abraham from Heaven saw the birth of Jesus. John 8:56

    E. To the Jews by the testimony of John the Baptist. Matthew 3:1-12

       1. John the Baptist as “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.” Isaiah 40:3

    F. To the world by the testimony of the Holy Trinity at the baptism of Jesus. Matthew 3:13-17
