Jesus Heals a Leper

Jesus Calms a Storm

A. Great multitudes followed Jesus as he came down from the mountain,. Matthew 8:1

B. Jesus heals a leper. Matthew 8:2-5 [Mark 1:40-42; Luke 5:12-13]

    1. Leper worshipped Jesus. Matthew 8:2

    2. Jesus can make him clean, if he wanted to. Matthew 8:2

    3. Jesus touched him. Matthew 8:3

    4. “I will; be thou clean.”

    5. Immediately the leper was cleansed.

    6. Show yourself to the priest. Matthew 8:4

C. Jesus heals a centurion’s servant. Matthew 8:5-13 [Luke 7:2-10]

    1. In Capernaum, a centurion (Gentile) comes to Jesus. Matthew 8:5

    2. The centurion’s servant has palsy. Matthew 8:6

    3. Jesus will go to him and heal him. Matthew 8:7

    4. The humility of the centurion. Matthew 8:8-9

       a. The centurion believes that if Jesus would just speak the word, his servant would be healed. Matthew 8:8

       b. Jesus marveled at the centurion’s (Gentile) faith and praised his faith

       in that it was greater than the Jews. Matthew 8:10

    5. The Jews must believe in Jesus or they will not go to heaven, but to hell. Matthew 8:11-12

    6. Jesus speaks the word and the servant was healed. Matthew 8:13

D. Jesus heals Peter’s mother-in-law. Matthew 8:14-15 [Mark 1:29-31; Luke 4:38-39]

    1. Jesus touched her hand and she was healed. Matthew 8:15

    2. “She arose, and ministered unto them”.

E. Jesus fulfills Isaiah 53:4. Matthew 8:16-17 F. The commitment of discipleship. Matthew 8:18-22

    1. A scribe wanted to follow Jesus. Matthew 8:19

       a. You will be poor and homeless. Matthew 8:20

    2. A disciple wanted time off to bury his father. Matthew 8:21

       a. You must be willing to forsake all and follow Jesus. Matthew 8:22

          1) “Let the dead bury their dead” -- Let the lost (dead in sin) take care of the lost.

G. Jesus calms a storm. Matthew 8:23-27 [Mk. 4:35-41; Luke 8:23-25]

    1. The storm was dangerous. Matthew 8:23-24

    2. Jesus was asleep. (Nothing to worry about) Matthew 8:24

    3. The disciples thought they would die. Matthew 8:25

    4. Jesus rebuked their faith and calmed the storm. Matthew 8:26-27

H. Two possessed with devils were healed. Matthew 8:28-34 [Mark 5:1-20; Luke 8:26-40]

    1. Two demoniacs in the country of the Gergesenes. Matthew 8:28

    2. No one could pass by that way because of them. Matthew 8:28

    3. The demons identified Jesus as the Son of God. Matthew 8:29

    4. The demons did not want to be tormented before the time. Matthew 8:28

    5. A herd of swine were feeding a good way off from them. Matthew 8:30

    6. The demons wanted to go into the herd of swine. Matthew 8:31

    7. Jesus gave them permission. Matthew 8:32

    8. The herd of swine ran violently into the sea and died. Matthew 8:32

    9. The keepers of the swine went into the city and told what happened. Matthew 8:33

    10. The whole city came out and asked Jesus to leave. Matthew 8:34
