Acts 12


I. Herod killed James the brother of John. Vs. 1-2

II. Herod puts Peter in prison. Vs. 3-6

    A. There was four quaternions of soldiers assigned to guard Peter. Vs. 3-4

       1. There were four soldiers guarding Peter simultaneously at all times. Vs. 4

    B. Prayer for Peter was made without ceasing by the church. Vs. 5

    C. Two soldiers were chained to Peter and two soldiers stood guard at the cell door. Vs. 6

III. The angel of the Lord sets Peter free from prison. Vs. 7-11

    A. While Peter was asleep chained to two soldiers, the angel of the Lord came to him. Vs. 6-7

    B. A light shined in the prison. Vs. 7

    C. The angel woke Peter up, and the chains fell off. Vs. 7

    D. Peter followed the angel past the first and second ward to the iron gate. Vs. 8-10

       1. Peter thought he was seeing a vision. Vs. 9

    E. The iron gate opened of its own accord. Vs. 10

    F. The angel led Peter down one street and left him. Vs. 10

    G. Now Peter knew that the angel of the Lord had set him free. Vs. 11

IV. Peter goes to the house of Mark’s mother, Mary. Vs. 12-17

    A. They were praying for the release of Peter. Vs. 12

    B. Peter knocks at the gate and Rhoda goes to see who is there. Vs. 13

    C. When Rhoda knew that it was Peter, she did not open the gate for gladness. Vs. 14

    D. Rhoda went to tell the others who were praying that Peter was at the gate. Vs. 14

    E. They thought she was mad, and then they said it was Peter’s angel. Vs. 15

    F. They opened the gate as Peter continued knocking, and they were astonished to see him. Vs. 16

V. Peter shares how the angel of the Lord delivered him out of prison, and then he leaves to go to another place. Vs. 17-18

VI. Herod has the keepers of the prison put to death. Vs. 19

VII. The death of Herod. Vs. 20-23

    A. Herod sits on his throne and made an oration. Vs. 20-21

    B. The People gave a shout saying that Herod had the voice of a god. Vs. 22

    C. Immediately the angel of the Lord smote Herod and he was eaten of worms and died. Vs. 23

       1. Judgment came because Herod did not give God the glory.

    D. The word of God grew and multiplied. Vs. 24

VIII. Mark goes to Antioch with Barnabas and Saul after they had fulfilled their ministry. Vs. 25
