In all of the scriptures about angels, nothing is mentioned about angels having wings. The idea that angels have wings comes from the drawings of artists. The artists thought that Seraphims, Cherubims and the beasts before the throne of God were angels. Therefore, since they had wings, the artists believed angels had wings. Angels do not have wings! Angels are never described with wings.
In the Bible, when any life is mentioned that is different from the human form, a description is given, and if it has wings, they are mentioned. Such is the case with Seraphims, Cherubims and the beasts before the throne of God; they are different, and they have wings. When an angel appears to Zechariah to explain the visions he sees, one of the visions is about two women, but these women are different in that they have the wings of a stork.
Zechariah 5:9-10 "Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah
between the earth and the heaven. Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah?"
Nothing is said about the angel having wings. If angels had wings, then in one place or another the Bible would give a description of the wings. The Bible never states that angels have wings.
Another reason for the idea that angels have wings is that in three accounts the Bible records an angel flying, but it never mentions or describes any wings on the angel.
Daniel 9:21 "Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation."
Revelation 8:13 "And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the
inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!"
Revelation 14:6 "And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,"
With all the power of an angel and its ability to be visible or invisible or to take the shape of a flame of fire, there should be no problem in believing that an angel could fly without wings.
