Angels Lesson 6 - The Devil and his Angels from Jerry L. Wells on Vimeo.

The account of how Lucifer became the Devil is found hidden in two passages of scriptures: Ezekiel 28:12-18, a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and in Isaiah 14:9-19, a proverb against the king of Babylon.

A Cherub sins and becomes the Devil

There was a Cherub, Lucifer, the son of the morning, who decided that he wanted to be God, and as a result of this sin he became the Devil. The Devil was not created as the Devil in the beginning.

1. Lucifer was in the city of , the garden of God. Lucifer had a commanding voice and could sing.

Ezekiel 28:13 “Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.”

Ezekiel 28:18 “Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.”

Ezekiel 28:16-18 “By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. 18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.”

  11. How many times was the word “I” used in Isaiah 14:13-14?

When Lucifer sinned against God, he became the Devil.  Lucifer, now known as the Devil, is not a god.  He does not know everything, nor can he be in every place at the same time. He does not have sovereign power. Everything that God does for man, the Devil will imitate. The Devil  is a counterfeit of God.  This confrontation with God was before Adam and Eve were created.

to question 11.

  Fallen Angels

There are two groups of angels that sinned before God.  The first group of angels that sinned against God are those who followed the Devil.

12. It is assumed that a third of the angelic host followed the Devil, because the tail of a red dragon drew the third part of the of heaven.

Revelation 12:3-4 “And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. 4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.”

The second group of angels that sinned before God are the angels during the time of Noah.

13. The angels that sinned in the time of Noah were cast down to and put into of darkness.

2 Peter 2:4-5 "For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment:  and spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;"

Disembodied Spirits

When Lucifer sinned and became the Devil, he and his angels became disembodied spirits.  Therefore, in order for them to work in this physical visible world, they must posses a physical visible body. Thus we have demon possession.  A human body may hold many of the Devil’s angels or spirits (demons) at the same time.

  16. When the Devil appeared to Eve, what physical body did he use?

Genesis 3:1 “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”

Genesis 3:14 “And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:”
