Genesis 2


I. The Seventh day. Genesis 2:1-3

    A. The heavens and the earth were finished.

    B. God rested on the seventh day.

    C. God blessed and sanctified the seventh day.

II. The generations of the heavens and of the earth. Genesis 2:4-7

    A. God created every plant of the field before it was in the earth.

    B. God created every herb of the field before it grew.

    C. There was neither rain nor any one to till the ground.

    D. God watered the whole earth with a mist that rose up from the earth.

    E. God formed man out of the dust of the ground.

    F. God breathed the breath of life into man and he became a living soul.

III. The Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:8-14

    A. God planted a garden eastward in Eden.

    B. God made every tree to grow out of the ground.

    C. God planted the tree of life in the midst of the garden.

    D. God planed the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the midst of the garden.

    E. Out of Eden a river flowed into the garden to water it.

    F. The river divided into four heads.

       1. The river Pison that went through the land of Havilah.

          a. In the land of Havilah there is gold, bdellium, and onyx stone.

       2. The river Gihon that went through the land of Ethiopia.

       3. The river Hiddekel that went toward the east of Assyria.

       4. The river Euphrates.

IV. God put man in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:15-17

    A. Man was to dress it and keep it.

    B. Man could eat of every tree of the Garden except one.

       1. Man was not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil or he would die.

V. God creates a companion for man. Genesis 2:18-25

    A. Man should not be alone.

    B. God created all the animals and had Adam to name them.

    C. None of the animals were a companion for man.

    D. God creates Eve for Adam.

       1. God put Adam into a deep sleep.

       2. God took one of Adam’s ribs.

       3. God created Eve from the rib of man.

       4. God brought Eve to Adam.

       5. Adam identified her as bone of his bones and flesh of his flesh.

       6. Adam called her Woman.

       7. “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

       8. Adam and Eve were married by God.

          a. “They were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.”
