I. The whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. Genesis 11:1-2
A. They dwelt in the land of Shinar.
II. The building of a city and a tower. Genesis 11:3-4
A. They used baked brick and slime for mortar.
B. They built a tower whose top would reach unto heaven.
C. They wanted a name that they might not be scattered.
III. The LORD came down to see the city and the tower. Genesis 11:5-6
A. The people are one
B. They all have one language
C. Nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
IV. God’s judgment. Genesis 11:7-9
A. God confounded their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
B. God scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth.
C. The city was called Babel.
1. Because the LORD confounded the language of all the earth and
scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
V. The generations of Shem. Genesis 11:10-32
A. Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after
the flood: Genesis 11:10-11
1. And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and
begat sons and daughters.
B. Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah: Genesis 11:12-13
1. Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years,
and begat sons and daughters.
C. Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber: Genesis 11:14-15
1. Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and
begat sons and daughters.
D. Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg: Genesis 11:16-17
1. Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and
begat sons and daughters.
E. Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu: Genesis 11:18-19
1. Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and
begat sons and daughters.
F. Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug Genesis 11:20-21
1. Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and
begat sons and daughters.
G. Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor: Genesis 11:22-23
1. Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat
sons and daughters.
H. Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah: Genesis 11:24-25
1. Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years,
and begat sons and daughters.
I. Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

VI. The generations of Terah: Genesis 11:27-28
A. Abram
B. Nahor
C. Haran
1. Lot.
2. Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in
Ur of the Chaldees.
VII. Abram and Nahor took them wives. Genesis 11:29-30
A. Abram’s wife was Sarai.
1. Sarai was barren; she had no child.
B. Nahor’s wife was Milcah.
1. The daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
VIII. Terah leaves Ur of the Chaldees and goes to Haran in the land of
Mesopotamia. Genesis 11:31
A. Terah takes Abram, Saria, and Lot.
B. The days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died
in Haran. Genesis 11:32
