I. Abram’s name is changed to Abraham. Genesis 17:1-8
A. When Abram was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to him.
B. Abram would be the father of many nations.
C. Abram’s name would be changed to Abraham.
D. God would establish his covenant with Abraham and his seed.
II. Circumcision, the sign of the covenant. Genesis 17:9-14
A. Every male child that is to be in the covenant is to be circumcised at the age of eight days.
1. Every male child of your seed.
2. Anyone born in your house, servant or slave.
3. He that is bought with money.
4. Any stranger that is not of your seed.
B. Any male that is not circumcised will be cut off from his people and not be part of the covenant.
III. Sarai’s name would be changed to Sarah. Genesis 17:15-17
A. Sarah would have a son of the covenant.
1. Sarah would be the mother of nations.
2. Sarah would be the mother of kings.
B. Abraham laughed.
1. Could he have a child when he is 100 years old?
2. Could Sarah have a child when she is 90 years old?
IV. Abraham wanted Ishmael to be the child of the covenant. Genesis 17:18
V. Sarah would bear a son. Genesis 17:19
A. His name would be Isaac.
B. God will establish his covenant with him and his seed after him.
VI. God’s blessing on Ishmael. Genesis 17:20
A. Ishmael will be fruitful.
B. God will multiply Ishmael exceedingly.
C. Ishmael will have 12 princes.
D. Ishmael will be a great nation.
VII. The covenant will be with Isaac. Genesis 17:21
VIII. Abraham and all with him are circumcised. Genesis 17: 22-27
A. Abraham was 99 when he was circumcised.
B. Ishmael was 13 when he was circumcised.
