I. Jacob obtains Isaac’s blessing (authority) through deceit. Genesis 27:1-29
A. Isaac is old and almost blind. Genesis 27:1-2 B. Isaac instructs Esau to go to the field and kill a deer and prepare the meat that he may eat and bless him. Genesis 27:3-4 C. Rebekah overhears the request made by Isaac. Genesis 27:5 D. Rebekah plots a way for Jacob to deceive Isaac in believing he is Esau in order to receive the blessing. Genesis 27:6-17 E. Jacob carries out the plot and tells Isaac that he is Esau. Genesis 27:18-24 F. Isaac blesses Jacob in place of Esau. Genesis 27:25-29 1. He would have plenty of corn and wine. 2. Others would serve him. 3. Nations would bow down to him. 4. He would rule over his brethren. 5. His brother would bow down to him. II. Isaac’s blessing upon Esau. Genesis 27:30-40 A. After Esau comes back from hunting, he and Isaac realize that they were deceived by Jacob. Genesis 27:30-36 B. Esau asks for a blessing from Isaac. Genesis 27:36-38 C. Isaac blesses Esau. Genesis 27:39-40 1. He will dwell in the fatness of the earth. 2. He will live by the sword and serve his brother. 3. He will break the yoke of Jacob off his neck. III. Rebekah sends Jacob to Haran to flee Esau. Genesis 27:41-46
