Genesis 28 - The Gate of Heaven

THE GATE OF HEAVEN

I. Heaven is a place, not a state of mind.

    A. Heaven is a single place, not everywhere.

II. There is only one way to go to heaven from Earth.

III. There is only one Spiritual way to go to heaven.

    A. Jesus is the only way spiritually to go to heaven. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6

    B. The spiritual strait gate (Jesus) is the only way to go to heaven. “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Matthew 7:13-14

IV. There is only one physical way to go to heaven from earth.

    A. Jacob saw the gate of heaven as a ladder. “And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.” Genesis 28:12 “And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” Genesis 28:17

        1. The angels went up to heaven and down to earth through this gate.

    B. John saw the gate of heaven as a door. “After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.” Revelation 4:1

        1. Why didn’t John just see heaven?

        2. Why did he have to go through the door?

        3. Why not just go to heaven?

       4. John had to go through the physical way to heaven from earth.

    C. A physical way to heaven from earth explains the actions of some angels and other events in the Bible.

V. There is a launch window (space window) that we must use in order to leave this earth and arrive at a special designated place in space.

    A. What is a launch window?

        1. The launch window refers to the period of time in which the vehicle can be launched, usually ranging anywhere from one second to several hours. For Discovery's mission, the window will never last more than five minutes a day. (NASA)

        2. If the spacecraft intends to rendezvous with another spacecraft, a planet, or other point in space, the launch must be carefully timed so that the orbits overlap at some point in the future. If the weather is bad or a malfunction occurs during a launch window, the mission must be postponed until the next launch window appropriate for the flight. (European Space Agency)
