I. Rachel is jealous of Leah and wants to have children. Genesis 30:1-4
A. Jacob tells Rachel that she is barren because of God. B. Rachel gave her handmaid, Bilhah, to Jacob for a wife. C. Rachel states that the children of Bilhah will be her children. II. The children of Bilhah. Genesis 30:5-8 A. Bilhah had two sons, Dan and Naphtali. III. Leah now was barren and gave her handmaid, Zilpah, to Jacob for a wife. Genesis 30:9-13 A. Zilpah had two sons, Gad and Asher. IV. God opens the womb of Leah again. Genesis 30:14-21 A. Leah’s son, Reuben, found some mandrakes in the field. B. Rachel wanted the mandrakes. C. Rachel allows Leah to lie with Jacob for the mandrakes. D. Leah has two more sons, Issachar and Zebulun. E. Leah has a daughter, Dinah. V. Rachel’s womb is opened and Rachel has a son, Joseph. Genesis 30:22-24 A. Rachel believes that she will have another son later. VI. Jacob wants to leave Laban and go back to his country. A. Laban asks Jacob how much he owes him for his work. B. Jacob wanted the speckled, spotted, and brown cattle and sheep. C. Laban agrees with Jacob. D. Jacob took rods of green poplar, hazel and chestnut trees and peeled back the bark so the white would show and laid them before the cattle and sheep thinking it would make the calves speckled, spotted or brown. 1. (God, not the rods, made the calves speckled, spotted and brown and increased that which Jacob would receive from Laban and.) Genesis 31:7-13
