1 Samuel 2


I. The song of praise to God by Hannah. Vs. 1-11 (God reveals himself in the song he gives to Hannah.)

    1. My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, (In God you have joy.)

    2. Mine horn is exalted in the LORD: (In God you have strength.)

    3. My mouth is enlarged over mine enemies;

       A. Because I rejoice in thy salvation. (In God’s salvation you have victory.)

    4. There is none holy as the LORD: (Only God is holy.)

       A. For there is none beside thee: (There is only one God.)

       B. Neither is there any rock like our God. (God is the only foundation.)

    5. Talk no more so exceeding proudly; (Humans in themselves have nothing to brag about.)

    6. Let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: (Without God there is no knowledge. )

    7. For the LORD is a God of knowledge, (God is knowledge.)

    8. And by him actions are weighed. (God is sovereign.)

    9. The bows of the mighty men are broken, (God is all powerful)

    10. And they that stumbled are girded with strength. (God is strength.)

    11. They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; (Wealth is only in God)

    12. And they that were hungry ceased: (God is the real provider)

    13. So that the barren hath born seven; (In God are the essences of life.)

    14. And she that hath many children is waxed feeble. (Only God is eternal.)

    15. The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: (Death and life belongs to God.)

    16. He bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up. (God is the resurrection and the life.)

    17. The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich:

    18. He bringeth low, and lifteth up.

    19. He raiseth up the poor out of the dust,

    20. And lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill,

       A. To set them among princes,

       B. And to make them inherit the throne of glory: (Judgment and rewards belong to God.)

    21. For the pillars of the earth are the LORD’S,

       A. And he hath set the world upon them. (God is the creator of everything.)

    22. He will keep the feet of his saints, (God protects his children.)

    23. And the wicked shall be silent in darkness; (God judges the wicked.)

    24. For by strength shall no man prevail. (God is stronger than all.)

    25. The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces;

       A. Out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: (God has overcome the world.)

    26. The LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; (God is the only judge of the world.)

    27. And he shall give strength unto his king, (God is the King of Kings.)

    28. And exalt the horn of his anointed. (God has all power in heaven and earth.)

II. The sins of Eli’s sons. Vs. 12-17

    1. Sons of Belial (Satan) (Without worth). Vs. 12

    2. They knew not the Lord. Vs. 12

    3. They abused the priestly part of the offerings. Vs. 13-17

III. God blessed Hannah with three more sons and two daughters. Vs. 18-21

IV. Eli reproves his sons for their sinful acts. Vs. 22-25

    1. They committed adultery with the women who came to the temple. Vs. 22

    2. Eli rebukes them. Vs. 23-25

    3. They would not listen to Eli. Vs. 25

V. Samuel grew in favor with God. Vs. 26

VI. A man of God pronounced judgment upon Eli and his family. Vs. 27-36

    1. He reminds Eli of God’s provisions for the priests. Vs. 27-28

    2. He ask Eli why did he go against God’s will. Vs. 29

    3. He tells Eli that he and his sons will die. Vs. 30-34

    4. He tells Eli that God will raise up a faithful priest. Vs. 35-36
