I. Saul upsets the Philistines. Vs. 1-7
A. Saul chose 2,000 men. Vs. 1-2 B. Jonathan chose 1,000 men. Vs. 2 C. Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines in Geba. Vs. 3 D. Saul sent word to all of Israel that he had defeated the Philistines in Geba. Vs. 4 E. The Philistines were very angry and brought their army to Michmash to fight Israel. Vs. 5. 1. 30,000 chariots 2. 6,000 horsemen 3. A great multitude of men F. The Israelis were afraid and hid in caves, thickets, rocks, pits, and high places. Vs. 6 G. Saul was in Gilgal with a scared army. Vs. 7 II. Saul usurps the priest’s office and offered a burnt offering. Vs. 8-12 III. Samuel reproves Saul. Vs. 13-14 A. Saul disobeyed God. Vs. 13 B. Saul’s kingdom will not continue. Vs. 14 C. God will find a man after his own heart. Vs. 14 IV. Saul and Jonathan have about 600 men. Vs. 15-16 V. The Philistines sent out three companies to spoil the land. Vs. 17-18 VI. Israel was not able to make any swords or spears. Vs. 19 VII. All Israel had were farming tools. Vs. 20-21 VIII. Saul and Jonathan were the only two who had a sword and spear. Vs. 22-23.
