I. Jonathan’s covenant with David. Vs. 1-23
A. David asked Jonathan what he has done to cause Saul to kill him. Vs. 1 B. Jonathan assures David that his father will tell him everything. Vs. 2 1. Saul knows that Jonathan favors David; therefore, Saul will not tell Jonathan what he will do. Vs. 3 C. David will not attend the meals with the king on the new moon. Vs. 4-5 D. If Saul is angry, Jonathan will warn David. Vs. 6-23 1. Jonathan will shoot three arrows in the field and tell the lad to get the arrows beyond where David is hiding. Vs. 11-23 II. Jonathan learns Saul’s intentions to kill David. Vs. 24-34 A. Saul thought that Jonathan was protecting David and throws a javelin at him. Vs. 30-34 III. The parting between David and Jonathan. Vs. 35-42 A. Jonathan goes to the field where David is hiding. Vs. 35 B. He shoots three arrows and tells the lad that the arrows are beyond him. Vs. 36-39 C. Jonathan sends the lad away. Vs. 40 D. David comes out of hiding. Vs. 41 E. David and Jonathan weep and David leaves. Vs. 41-42
