I. David flees to Adullam. Vs. 1-2

A. David escaped to the cave Adullam. Vs. 1

1. God had David to write Psalm 142 while in that cave.

B. All of his father’s house and his brethren came to David in the cave. Vs. 1

C. Everyone that was in distress, in debt, and discontented gathered themselves unto David. Vs. 2

D. David has an army of 400 men. Vs. 2

II. David goes to Mizpeh of Moab. Vs. 3-4

A. David asks the king of Moab to keep his mother and father. Vs. 3-4

B. David stays in the hold (a watchtower-fort). Vs. 4

III. The prophet Gad told David to go to the land of Judah. Vs. 5

A. David goes to the forest of Hareth. Vs. 5

IV. Saul kills the priests and people of Nob. Vs. 6-19

A. Saul challenges the support for himself. Vs. 6-8

B. Doeg tells Saul about David with the priest Ahimelech at Nob. Vs. 9-10

1. Ahimelech inquired of the Lord for David. Vs. 10

2. Ahimelech gave David food. Vs. 10

3. Ahimelech gave David the sword of Goliath. Vs. 10

C. Saul calls for the priest Ahimelech, his father’s house and all the priest of Nob. Vs. 11

D. Saul accuses Ahimelech with David of conspiring against him. Vs. 12-13

1. That Ahimelech gave David what he needed to lie in wait to kill Saul. Vs. 13

E. Amhimelech denies the charges. Vs. 14-15

1. All Amhimelech knew about David was that he was faithful to Saul. Vs. 14

2. Amhimelech did not require of the Lord for David’s sake but for Saul. Vs. 15

3. Amhimelech told the king that no one knew of the conflict between him and David. Vs. 15

Note: Amhimelech did not tell the king that David said he was on a special mission for the king.

F. Saul pronounces that Amhimelech and all his family would die. Vs. 16

G. Saul orders his footmen to kill Amhimelech, his family and the priest of the Lord. Vs. 17

H. The footmen refused to do so. Vs. 17

I. Saul orders Doeg to kill Amhimelech, his family and the priest of the Lord. Vs. 18

J. Doeg kills 85 priests. Vs. 18

K. Saul has everyone in the city of Nob to be killed along with their animals. Vs. 19

V. David is told of the killings at Nob. Vs. 20-23
