I. David defeats the Philistines. Vs. 1-5
A. David asks the Lord if he is to fight the Philistines. Vs. 1-2 B. David’s men were afraid. Vs. 3 C. David asks the Lord again if he is to fight the Philistines. Vs. 4 D. David and his men defeated the Philistines. Vs. 5 II. Saul pursues David. Vs. 6-12 A. David is in Keilah, a town of gates and bars. Vs. 1-7 B. Saul takes his army to besiege David and his men in Keilah. Vs. 7-8 C. David told Abiathar the priest to bring the ephod. Vs. 9 D. David prays and asks God if Saul is coming down to take him and destroy the town. Vs. 10-11 E. David prays and asks God if the men of Keilah would deliver him to Saul. Vs. 12 III. David escapes to the wilderness. Vs. 13-29 A. David now has 600 men. Vs. 13 B. They hid in the strongholds in the mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. Vs. 13-14 C. Saul sought David every day, but God protected him. Vs. 14-15 D. Jonathan went to David and encouraged him in the Lord. Vs. 16-18 1. Fear not: for Saul will not find you. Vs. 17 2. You will be king over Israel. Vs. 17 3. Jonathan will be next to David. Vs. 17 4. Saul knows all this. Vs. 17 5. David and Jonathan made a covenant before the Lord. V. 18 E. Jonathan goes back home. Vs. 18 F. The Ziphites agreed to help Saul find David. Vs. 20-23 G. David was in a mountain in Maon. Vs. 24-25 H. Saul went on the opposite side of the mountain. Vs. 26 I. Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them. Vs. 26 J. A messenger told Saul the Philistines have invaded the land. Vs. 27 K. Saul left immediately to fight against the Philistines. Vs. 28 L. David went to the strongholds at Engedi. Vs. 29
