I. David plans to build a temple. Vs. 1-3
A. David tells Nathan the prophet that he wants to build a temple to put the Ark in. vs. 1-2 B. Nathan tells David to do it and that God is with him. Vs. 3 II. God’s covenant with David. Vs. 4-29 A. God tells Nathan that he has never given any commandment to build a temple. Vs. 4-7 B. Nathan is to tell David about God’s covenant with him. Vs. 8-17 1. God has chosen David and made his name great. Vs. 8-9 2. God has appointed a place for Israel and will make an everlasting house for David. Vs. 10-11 3. The kingdom of David’s son would be established after David’s death. Vs. 12 4. David’s son would build the temple. Vs. 13-15 5. David’s house and throne would be eternally established. Vs. 16 C. David’s prayer of thanksgiving to God. Vs. 18-29 1. David sits before the Ark. Vs. 18 2. David humbles himself before the Lord. Vs. 19-21 3. David praises God for his greatness. Vs. 22 4. David thanks God for his protection of Israel. Vs. 23-24 5. David accepts God’s covenant. Vs. 25-29
