I. The scribes and Pharisees put tradition above the divine law. Matthew 15:1-20 [Mark 7:1-23]
A. Why didn’t the disciples wash their hand when they ate? Matthew 15:1-2 B. Jesus answered, “Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? Matthew 15:3-9 1. By dishonoring their parents. Matthew 15:4-6 2. Jesus quotes Isaiah 29:13. Matthew 15:7-9 C. It is not what goes in the mouth, but what comes out of a man that defileth a man. Matthew 15:10-11 D. The Pharisees were offended. Matthew 15:12-14 E. Jesus explains the parable of “what comes out of a person defiles him”. Matthew 15:15-20 1. “Out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, and blasphemies.” Matthew 15:19 II. The healing of the Canaanite woman’s daughter. Matthew 15:21-28 [Mark 7:24-30] A. The woman was rejected, because as a gentile, she approaches Jesus as the Son of David. Matthew 15:21-24 B. Then the woman approach Jesus as Lord and her daughter was healed. Matthew 15:25-28 C. Jesus declared her faith being great. Matthew 15:28 III. Jesus feeds 4,000 men plus women and children. Matthew 15:29-39[Mark 8:1-9] A. Jesus had compassion on the multitude and wanted to feed them. Matthew 15:32 B. They feed the 4,000 men plus women and children with 7 loaves and a few fishes. Matthew 15:33-36 C. After they ate and were full, they took up 7 full baskets of fish that was left. Matthew 15:37
