I. The Transfiguration of Jesus. Matthew 17:1-13
A. Jesus took Peter, James, and John into an high mountain. Matthew 17:1 B. Jesus was transfigured before them. Matthew 17:2 C. Moses and Elijah appeared and talked with Jesus. Matthew 17:3 D. Peter wanted to build three tabernacles. Matthew 17:4 E. A bright cloud overshadowed them. Matthew 17:5 1. God spoke out of the cloud. 2. “This is my beloved Son, in which I am well pleased; hear ye him.” F. The disciples were afraid. Matthew 17:6-8 G. As they came down from the mountain, Jesus told them not to tell anyone until after his resurrection. Matthew 17:9 H. The disciples asked about Elijah coming before Christ would come. Matthew 17:10-13 1. Elijah will come and restore all things. Matthew 17:11 2. Elijah has already come and they killed him. Matthew 17:12 3. Jesus would also be killed. Matthew 17:12 4. Then the disciples understood that John the Baptist was Elijah. Matthew 17:13 II. The Healing of the Demoniac Son. Matthew 17:14-18 A. The disciples could not heal him. Matthew 17:14-16 B. Jesus healed him. Matthew 17:17-18 III. Conditions of Spiritual Power. Matthew 17:19-21 A. The disciples wanted to know why they could not heal the demoniac son. Matthew 17:19 1. Because of their unbelief. Matthew 17:20 B. All the faith they needed was pure faith as much as a grain of mustard seed. Matthew 17:20 1. That faith would come by prayer and fasting. Matthew 17:21 IV. Jesus tells the disciples again that he must be killed and raised the third day. Matthew 17:22-23 V. The Miracle of the tribute money. Matthew 17:24-27 A. Are we to pay taxes? Yes. B. Peter would find the money to pay in the mouth of the first fish that he would catch. Matthew 17:27
