Acts 7


I. The high priest asked Stephen “Are these things so?” Vs. 1

    A. Are you trying to change the customs which Moses delivered?

II. Stephen’s defense before the council. Vs. 2-53

    A. God called Abraham and promised him and his seed this land. Vs. 2-8

    B. Joseph was sold by his brethren, became governor over Egypt and delivered his family from famine by taken them to Egypt. Vs. 9-16

    C. When they were oppressed by the Egyptians, Moses was born and was sent to deliver Israel out of Egypt. Vs. 17-36

    D. Moses witnessed of Christ, received the law and saw the disobedience and idolatry of the Israelites. Vs. 37-43

    E. Moses built the tabernacle of witness, till Solomon built the temple. Vs. 44-50

    F. Stephen concluded by accusing his hearers with imitating their fathers’ rebellion against God and persecution of his prophets, by murdering Christ and not keeping the law. Vs. 51-53

III. The martyrdom of Stephen. Vs. 54-60

    A. The council was so upset with what Stephen said that they started biting him. Vs. 54

    B. Stephen, full of the Holy Ghost, saw the glory of God and Jesus standing on the right hand of God. Vs. 55

       1. Stephen said, “I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.” Vs. 56

    C. The council stopped their ears, cried with a loud voice, and ran upon Stephen all at once. Vs. 57

    D. The council cast him out of the city and stoned him. Vs. 58

    E. The witnesses laid their clothes at Saul’s feet. Vs. 58

    F. They stoned Stephen. Vs. 59

    G. Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Vs. 59

    H. Stephen kneeled down and with a loud voice prayed, “Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.” Vs. 60

    I. Stephen died. Vs. 60
