Acts 10


I. The vision of Cornelius. Vs. 1-8

    A. Cornelius was a centurion of the Italian band. Vs. 1-2

       1. Cornelius lived in Caesarea.

       2. A devout man that feared God with all his house.

       3. Prayed to God always.

       4. Gave much alms to the people.

    B. Cornelius saw a vision at three o’clock in the afternoon, one of the hours of daily prayer. Vs. 3

    C. He saw an angel calling his name. Vs. 3

    D. The message of the angel of God. Vs. 4-6

       1. Cornelius’ prayers and charity were a memorial before God.

       2. He is to send men to Joppa.

       3. Ask for Simon Peter.

       4. Peter is staying with Simon a tanner.

       5. Peter will tell you what to do.

    E. Cornelius sends for Peter. Vs. 7-8

       1. He sends two servants and a devout soldier.

II. The vision of Peter. Vs. 9-23

    A. Peter went upon the housetop to pray. Vs. 9

    B. Peter was hungry and fell into a trance. Vs. 10

    C. A great sheet tied at the four corners was let down from heaven. Vs. 11

    D. In the sheet were all manner of four-footed beasts, creeping things and fouls of the air. Vs. 12

    E. Peter was told to kill and eat the animals in the sheet. Vs. 13

    F. Peter refused because it was unlawful as a Jew to eat any thing that was common or unclean. Vs. 14

    G. Peter was told what God has cleansed was not to be called common. Vs. 15

    H. The sheet and animals were taken back to heaven and this process was repeated three times. Vs. 16

    I. While Peter was considering what all this meant, the men from Cornelius were at the gate of Simon’s house. Vs. 17

    J. The Holy Spirit told Peter to go with the men to Cornelius. Vs. 18-20

    K. The next day Peter and certain brethren went to Cornelius with the men. Vs. 21-23

III. Peter met Cornelius in Caesarea. Vs. 24-33

    A. Cornelius had his family and friends waiting for Peter.

    B. Cornelius fell before Peter and worshiped him. Vs. 24-25

    C. Peter took him up, saying, “Stand up; I myself also am a man.” Vs. 26

    D. Peter tells them of the Jewish law concerning Gentiles. Vs. 28-29

       1. God taught Peter not to call any man common or unclean. Vs. 28

    E. Cornelius told Peter about his vision. Vs. 30-33

IV. Peter preaches to the Gentiles. Vs. 34-43

    A. Peter preaches on “God is no respecter of persons”. vs. 34

    B. Jesus is Lord of all. Vs. 35

    C. Jesus was sent to Israel and they crucified him.

    D. God raised Jesus from the dead.

    E. Now Jesus is for the world, “Whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.” Vs. 43

V. The Gentiles receive the Holy Spirit. Vs. 44-48

    A. While Peter spoke, the Holy Spirit fell on Cornelius and his group. Vs. 44

    B. The Jews that came with Peter were astonished that the Gentiles received the gift of the Holy Ghost. Vs. 45

       1. They spoke with tongues and magnified God. Vs. 46

    C. Peter asked, “Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?” Vs. 47

    D. They all were baptized in the name of the Lord. Vs. 48
