I. Clarification concerning the Day of the Lord. Vs. 1-5
A. Do not be troubled that the Day of the Lord is at hand. Vs. 1-2 1. That it has already happened. Matthew 24:4-5, 24 B. Do not be deceived. Vs. 3 C. There must first be a falling away. Vs. 3,1 Timothy 4:1-3, 2 Timothy 4:3-4, 1 John 2:18 D. The man of sin is to be revealed. Vs. 3 1. The son of perdition. Vs. 3, John 17:12 a. Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped. Vs. 4 b. He as God sitteth in the temple of God. Vs. 4 c. Showing himself that he is God. Vs. 4,Daniel 7:8, 20, 25 E. You were told this before. Vs. 5 II. The Wicked one, the Anti-Christ. Vs. 6-12 A. The Holy Spirit will restrain the Anti-Christ until it is time for the Anti-Christ to be revealed. Vs. 6 B. The mystery of iniquity doth already work. Vs. 7 C. The Holy Spirit will be taken out at the Rapture. Vs. 7 D. The Wicked one will be revealed after the Holy Spirit is taken out. Vs. 8 E. The Wicked one will be destroyed at the Second Coming of Christ. Vs. 8, Revelation 19:20 F. The Wicked one will come with the working of Satan. Vs. 9 1. The Wicked one will come with power, signs, and lying wonders. Vs. 9, Revelation 13:1-7 2. The wicked one will come with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish. Vs. 10 a. Those who received not the love of the truth. Vs. 10 1) God will send them strong delusion. Vs. 11 a) That they might believe a lie. Vs. 11, Romans 1:21-22, 28 b) That they all might be damned. Vs. 12 c) Who believed not the truth. Vs. 12 d) Who had pleasure in unrighteousness. Vs. 12, 2 Timothy 3:4 III. Thanks to God for you. Vs. 13-14 A. Those who are the beloved of the Lord. Vs. 13 1. The plan of salvation was decided from the beginning. Vs. 13-14 a. You must be sanctified (set aside to serve God) by the Holy Spirit. Vs. 13 b. You must believe the truth. Vs. 13 c. You must be called by the gospel. Vs. 14 2. To the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Vs. 14, Romans 8:17 IV. Exhortation to Believers. Vs. 15 A. Stand fast. Vs. 15 B. Hold the traditions. Vs. 15 1. Which you have been taught. Vs. 15 a. By the word, spoken or written. Vs. 15 V. A word of comfort. Vs. 16-17 A. Our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father. Vs. 16 1. Who hath loved us. Vs. 16 2. Who hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope. Vs. 16 a. Through grace. Vs. 16 B. Will comfort your hearts. Vs. 17 C. Will establish you in every good word and work. Vs. 17
